The
Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning Department (CS&LL)
brings together all services for children, including school based education, social care, early years, Youth Service, Connexions and also includes Adult and Community Education.
The "Children's Agenda" underlying the 2004 Children Act, sets out five outcomes to be achieved for every child through the work of integrated children's services departments in partnership with health, police, other statutory agencies and the voluntary sector.
These outcomes offer a holistic view of the child and are:
-
Be healthy
-
Be safe
-
Enjoy and achieve
-
Make a positive contribution to your community
-
Enjoy economic well-being
Hounslow has established a Children's Partnership Board to provide strategic leadership to the development of integrated services for children.
The authority manages 76 schools in the borough: 58 Primary schools, 14 Secondary schools and 4 Special schools as well as a Pupil Referral Service.
Hounslow's school population is culturally and racially diverse: more than half of pupils are from ethnic categories other than white; over 48% of pupils have English as an additional language and there are over 100 home languages.
