Whether you are currently a Senior Leader or thinking about becoming one, we hope these pages will provide you with some valuable information and support.
Research conducted by the National College for School Leadership (NCSL) consistently shows that successful appointments are dependent on structured induction and support in the early years of Headship, and in particular that appointees value mentoring/networking initiatives more than any other style of support.
Hounslow supports this approach for all leadership posts, and we feel that this will help us to recruit quality candidates, and at the same time help us to ‘grow our own’. We welcome interest from prospective leaders and aim to help those currently in leadership posts expand their careers.

- Hounslow recently hosted Mock Interview Sessions for a number of our Senior Leaders who are aspiring to Headship. These sessions were created in response to requests from staff around how to cope with the interview and assessment process. The 2 twilight workshops were hosted at the local Education Centre (HEC) and included a chance to hear some key advice, to take part in a mock interview and presentation and to receive 1 to 1 feedback. Panels were made up of consultant Headteachers, Advisers and Governors. Both sessions were received very favourably and colleagues reported on how useful ( if not daunting) they found the process. It is hoped that these sessions will run on an annual basis for aspiring leaders.
- Hounslow recently hosted the Annual Governor's Conference on Saturday 14th March 09. The Conference was titled 'Tomorrow's Leaders Today: Finding, Keeping and Developing Senior Leaders' and focused around the recently released NCSL toolkit for Schools. Andrew Seber (CBE) National Consultant presented an interesting and informative look at Senior Leadership in the national and local context and a variety of Headteachers spoke about their own personal experiences of moving into leadership roles. The event was attended by over 70 Headteachers and Governors and is part of on-going work conducted by the LA Senior Leadership Working Party.
