Schools & Teacher Support

The Department is in the process of development as the Council implements its strategy responding to the 'Every Child Matters' agenda. Our Director, Judith Pettersen is working on bringing together and streamlining Hounslow's education support services (formerly the Lifelong Learning, Leisure and Cultural Services department) with Children's Social Services to form the new department.

In implementing it's strategy the Council will build on the excellent services already provided such as the strong advisory service, which as well as providing specialist curriculum support, also provides support teams that work alongside schools in areas including Language, Music and Special Needs. The service also incorporates the Hounslow Education Business Partnership (HEBP), which aims to better prepare young people for adult and working life.

The Hounslow Education Centre is a focal point for many of the support activities and resources provided by the Authority, an example of the breadth and quality of the development initiatives provided by the LEA.

There are increasing opportunities for teachers and schools to share good practice directly - the Hounslow Virtual Education Centre is a website dedicated to sharing information throughout the borough and is an example of this: www.hvec.org.uk
