Hounslow has a resident population of approximately 213,000. Over a third of Hounslow's population come from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds (BME), and the ethnic minority population is projected to grow by approximately 9% over the next 10 years. Over 67% of school pupils are from BME backgrounds and 48% have English as an Additional Language (EAL.)

The borough is in convenient proximity to London's Heathrow Airport and surrounding business area. The A4 and M4 run through Hounslow and the area includes 8 London Underground Stations and 7 main line railway stations, guaranteeing quick and easy access to the heart of the capital. The borough and its schools are also easily reached by local bus services. Bus routes run the length of the borough, and the centre of Hounslow is easily reached by bus from three of the local teacher-training colleges (Brunel University, St.Mary's College, and Kingston University).
